Vitax Box Tree Moth Trap Refill, contains 2 lures. Vitax Box Tree Moth Trap consists of a trap with 2 pheromone lures to attract the male box tree moths, monitoring and helping control this serious pest. The lure attracts male moths which then drop through the funnel into the trap. Minor infestations may be adequately controlled by preventing males from mating with female moths. For severe infestations the monitoring trap provides warning of infestation allowing timely control measures to be introduced. The box tree moth is generally active from mid-April to October, peaking between mid-July to the end of September.

How to Use:

  1. Open the Package: Carefully open the package and take out the trap and the pheromone lures.
  2. Assemble the Trap: Follow the instructions to assemble the trap. This usually involves attaching the funnel to the trap body.
  3. Insert the Lures: Place one pheromone lure into the designated holder inside the trap. Make sure it is securely positioned.
  4. Hang the Trap: Use a string or wire to hang the trap at the recommended height, usually around the level of the box trees.
  5. Check Regularly: Inspect the trap regularly to monitor the number of moths caught. Replace the lure every 12 weeks or as needed.

Where to Use:

  • Garden: Hang the trap in your garden, particularly near box trees (Buxus).
  • Orchards and Nurseries: Suitable for use in areas where box trees are grown in large numbers.
  • Residential Areas: Can be used around homes with box tree hedges or topiaries.

When to Apply:

  • Active Period: The box tree moth is generally active from mid-April to October.
  • Peak Season: For best results, ensure the trap is in place from mid-July to the end of September, when moth activity peaks.
  • Continuous Monitoring: To maintain effective control, keep the trap up and running throughout the entire active period and replace the lures every 12 weeks.

Cautions:

  • Pesticide-Free: This trap does not use pesticides, making it safe for organic gardening.
  • Lure Handling: Avoid touching the pheromone lures with bare hands to prevent contamination. Use gloves or handle by the edges.
  • Placement: Hang the trap in an area that is out of reach of children and pets.
  • Disposal: Dispose of used lures and any caught moths according to local regulations.
  • Monitoring: The trap is primarily for monitoring purposes; in the case of severe infestations, additional control measures may be necessary.
